Comics exhibition “Thing” by Miglė Anušauskaitė

Comics exhibition “Thing” by Miglė Anušauskaitė is a set of comics grouped according to topics, made for reading. One can read comics of the “Thing” by succession or by choosing from six topics: science, society, art, rejected comics, literature, autobiographical comics. The handouts of an exhibition inform about color-topic designation, provide a couple of ways of looking at the exhibition and notify on the language in which comics are written.

The comics of M. Anušauskaitė got popular on the internet, therefore most of the works in the exhibition were meant for the internet – so original drawings seem more similar to sketches than to a final outcome. “Thing” consists of only a few prints: most of the comics in the exhibition are original artworks with all their drawbacks. The exhibition reveals the messy kitchen of webcomics and at the same time tries to squeeze them into the exhibitory frame, make them “suitable for printing”. Without the ephemerality of the internet, these originals are the actual, physical Thing that the author has made.

Miglė Anušauskaitė got a barchelor's degree in journalistics and master's degree in semiotics in Vilnius University. In 2008 she started to publish her writings in cultural press. Since 2010 Miglė has had personal columns for comics in different websites. Miglė often organises comics' workshops, participates in science popularization activities. Since 2013 she has a widely renown comics' column in a cultural paper “Šiaurės Atėnai”.

Comics' book “10 litų” (2014, “Aukso žuvys”) she has made with Gerda Jord, has won “Patriotų” prize.
