AT KCCC EXHIBITION HALL – ŽYGIMANTAS AUGUSTINAS “IN.550”
A personal exhibition of Žygimantas Augustinas “IN.550“ will be opened at KCCC Exhibition Hall (Didžioji Vandens g. 2, Klaipėda) on the 15th of September, Friday, at 6 p.m.
The comparison of the author of the exhibition Žygimantas Augustinas with the King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania, Žygimantas II Augustas (Sigismund II August) (1520-1572), which has been chasing him since childhood, could not help but affect the author’s self-esteem and attitude towards the world. Therefore, in 2017 Žygimantas Augustinas cannot refuse to celebrate the 550th anniversary of the birth of his so-called father the King of Poland, Žygimantas Senasis (Sigismund I the Old) (1467-1548). On this occasion together with the architect Vaidas Grinčelaitis he carried out a utopian reconstruction of the Royal Palace of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, which was reconstructed in 2002-2009, making it more appropriate for solemn feasts and improvement of state prestige. In addition to that, he created new portraits of his so-called parents (on the basis of the anthropometry and the portraits of Žygimantas Senasis and Bona Sforza, painted by Lucas Cranach Jr.) and ordered a new portrait of their humble son ŽygimantasAugustasto be engraved by the graphic Augustas Bidlauskas.
This is already the second exhibition celebrating the anniversary this year; the first one was held in Vilnius in March. A few new paintings will be added to the exhibition in Klaipėda; one of them will be a portrait of the mother of Žygimantas Augustas, Bona Sforza, emphasising the similarity between her and the present President of Lithuania, Dalia Grybauskaitė, which was discovered during the research.
