AT KKKC EXHIBITION HALL – DONI‘S RESPECT TO THE PAST AND OTHER PROJECTS

KKKC Exhibition hall (Didžioji Vandens g. 2, Klaipėda) continues the western tradition of experimental alternative music. On November 19^th, 4pm the melomans of the West coast are invited to a two part atmospheric music evening. In the first part, an unusual event awaits the listeners – the presentation and audition of Doni’s record „Без гражданства“.  In the second concert evening part – music projects “Driezhas”, “Skeldos” and “Girnų giesmės”.

Doni’s (Donatas Bielkauskas) record “Без гражданства“– a long planned record, dedicated  to a very close relative of the author – his grandfather. Based on his life story, the fates of post-war Lithuanian border residents are reflected on. Some of them were tragically killed, others were thrown to exile, and still others remained in the territory occupied by the soviet system which was equal to inner exile or capitulation. Apparently, even under these circumstances, a quiet single person’s resistance to the system was possible. In the dreary soviet times, the hero of the album dared to disobey the orders of the executive power, motivating his actions, that he is not the citizen of this country.  In the uproar, it is a miracle that the man remained alive and was not exiled. He was issued with a personal document with a stamp reading “без гражданства“(Russian – without citizenship).

In the composition of the album post-war symbols are encoded, that settled in memory in his childhood while listening to stories of his relatives.  “Wolf’s children”- lonely, wandering Eastern Prussian children, that good people hid and took care of.  “Flowering gardens” – generous in harvest welcoming their exiles returning home. “Servant of the cult“– a multi-layered and complicated state of a person and society. “Geburtsort: Szindaitschen“– a writing in grandfather’s personal documents, noting the place of birth, which is the current town of Žindaičiai. “1977“– symbolic year, in which the hero of the album died and a few months later the author was born.

The recording was made using only acoustic instruments and environmental sounds from authentic living places of his grandfather: houses still standing, an attic holding old craftsman tools, howling winds and chirping birds in the native Žindaičiai, a church, rustling yellowed documents and photographs, creaking footsteps in thecemeteryofJurbarkascity… “Без гражданства“ – a melancholic, atmospheric instrumental recording, to convey the state of a person, when you become an alien in your own homeland, imprisoned in the trap of a hard choice: to flee or to stay. The album is released in 150 copies, its duration – 40 minutes.

In the concert evening part, a project  “Driezhas“, finding new modules of sound esthetics every time, this  time in solo form (Kristijonas Lučinskas) presenting a new ambient music program.  The listeners are promised calm waves and electro acoustic nebulae.  Besides, a new acquaintance awaits to an ambient, drone musical project fromVilnius “Skeldos”, that will be playing for the first time at the seaside.  Their music sways like the dreary branches of a tree in the background of a darkening horizon.  However, anxiety shivers all around – forcing to listen, look and experience. The project’s sound system comes from melancholic, but soul soothing change of nature, nostalgic moods and wordless personal experiences. This elegy hold no pomp, it’s more like concentration, listening. During performances, next to the electronic sound processing tools, “Skeldos” don’t avoid using live instruments and voice.

The third participant of the concert part – a project “Girnų giesmės“existing for over 20 years. During those years, the sound of Laurynas Jukonis has encountered many changes in sound, but kept to its original guideline – archaic worldwide echo. With the generated sound walls, created by the author’s own electro acoustic instruments, he is trying to reach the sub consciousness of the listeners where the primal experience lies. Recently, “Girnų giesmės“submerged in the world of drone music, the shows became rare, usually played to a small amount of listeners in small spaces.
