INAUDIBLE SOUNDS OF KLAIPĖDA
The concert „Klaipėda. Inaudible sound“ will take place at KCCC Exhibition Hall (Didžioji Vandens st. 2, Klaipėda) at 3 p.m. on Saturday, the 28th of November; the following sound artists will participate: SALA, SVAIXT, Valdas M, FULMAR, McKaras.
In June, 2015 at Klaipėda Culture Communication Center a cycle of events „So far, so close: unknown soundscapes and city rituals“ took place. During discussions sound artists and theorists were analysing spaces‘ emotional and objects‘ physical interfaces with the sound. The practical seminar of sound art was inviting city people to explore the phonic landscape of Klaipėda city – to listen, record and analyse daily rituals, to search for ways of using the sound as a creative material.
KCCC continues the launched research of acoustic landscapes. On the 26th – 28th of November sound artists – SALA, SVAIXT, Valdas M, FULMAR, McKaras – of five projects will be visiting Klaipėda. For three days they will be collecting sounds that are made by surroundings, buildings, bridges, rivers, trees, stones, cars and other machines or objects‘ vibrations while using microphones and contact sound pickups. The authors will be creating new compositions by using their creations and modulating the collected audio material and at 3 p.m on Saturday, the 28th of November, they are presenting these compositions to the citizens. During this event all vibrations, existing in the air or on the ground, above or under the water, will turn into music.
SALA project started its activity more than 20 years ago. During this period everything was changing – ideas, sounds, conceptions and composition. However an ambush method proved by experience has still remained: to astonish not only the potential viewer or listener, but also ourselves. Just an eternal joy of motion and cognition, a note that is held up in space and a new hearing magic, released acrobatically among the mirrors of curves‘ daily round. Sounds of places, being gutted by sharp oscillators‘ blades, change into phantasmagorical sound images; night moths, brought to life by steel strings, flutter around in ritual rhythms; an uneasy tale appears in the distracted, never seen movies‘ or phrases‘ odds and ends, while between the black horns in the background of moon a SALAmander, intoxicated by sweet mead, arises. One of the project‘s members Audrius Šimkūnas will visit Klaipėda. During the concert day SALA will perform in all composition.
SVAIXT – one more personification of Laurynas Jukonis – Lithuanian post industrial pioneer and author of the project „Quern Songs“ (orig. „Girnų Giesmės“), that shows his sincere interest in the roots of civilization, origins of archaic, polysemantic, unbroken and not contrasted reality. Project‘s music is composed of a deep, pulsatory environment based on the ambient sounds, creating unearthly and mysterious atmosphere.
Valdas M is an interdisciplinary artist. He invokes the sound media by audiovisual installations and live performances where he applies analogical and digital technologies.
„I started trying to create the electronic sounds with computer ten years ago. I tried to learn its language and convey my own experiences by listening to the surroundings with music. For example, those sound coincidences, when you play the guitar and hear the motorcycle in the street or tractor purring at a construction site. They both catch the emotional curve and rhythm so accurately, it seems that something or someone controls them. The influence of this kind of phenomenon developed into the electroacoustic experiments, while playing with faster and slower rotating small electric engines that buzz and hum while emitting the magnetic field“, – Valdas M presents his creation.
FULMAR – actine underground character Levas, also known as an author of alternative projects „Pogrom“ and „Budrūs“. Angry sound walls, shot through with hatred for mainstream society, pop culture dogmas. The solid analogical noise will intertwist with surroundings‘ sounds, collected in Klaipėda.
McKaras – one of the earliest and most active creators of heavy electronic music in Lithuania, also recognizable in public from other projects: „Drama“, „Ataka“, „Notanga“ and others.
