ART PROJECT „MODERN GRAPHICS SPACES“

Art project „Modern Graphics Spaces“ initiated by KCCC begins on the 27th of August, 2021, on friday, at 5:00 p.m. at the Exhibition Hall of Klaipėda Culture Communication Center (KCCC) (Didžioji Vandens st. 2, Klaipėda).

After Klaipėda has become the European Youth Capital in 2021, KCCC joins the program of events for young people with the project “Modern Graphics Spaces”. Having set itself an ambitious goal to create spaces where a young individual would feel heard and needed, Klaipėda Culture Communication Center invites young Klaipėda residents and city guests to see artists’ works exposition dedicated to them and participate in events on the search for graphics in subcultures.

During the project, young people will have the opportunity to get to know street culture through their favorite creative expression – drawing, graffiti, comics, music or dancing on skateboards. The organizers offer to overcome the settled stereotypes and review the exhibited works not only while walking, but also while skateboarding or rollerblading. Throughout the month, there will be a ramp for skateboard enthusiasts and amateurs at the KCCC Exhibition Hall, on which every visitor of the exhibition who has wheels will be able to challenge himself.

Different art in exhibition spaces

The exhibition of the project “Modern Graphics Spaces”, which reminds that contemporary art cannot be forced into narrow frames, exhibits creative works of various genres by both well-known artists and artists who have just chosen the path of the creator. You can find creative works of various genres, such as drawings, objects, installations, comics, graphics, aerography works, etc. Remigijus Praspaliauskas, Ernestas Veikutis, Adomas Vasiliauskas, Lithuanian Skateboard Federation, Lina Itagaki, Justė Zarembaitė, Liepa Gaidauskaitė (Vilnius), Živilė Spūdytė-Žvėrūna, Jolita Puleikytė (Šiauliai), Donatas Valčiūnas (Palanga), Rasa Marija, Vilhelmas Giedraitis and Pijus Čeikauskas (Klaipėda) have presented their creative works for the exhibition.

One of exhibition elements is acquaintance with a relatively new phenomenon in the field of art, NFT (non-fungible token) or an irreplaceable token. It is a technology based on a blockchain, which turns works, texts or records in virtual space into a unique and original property owned only by you. NFT art creators Violetta Melnikova (Eye Above Sky), Ivona Tautkutė-Rustecka (Ivona Tau), Ivona Macejevska (Ivona Aya) and oonthinice, living and working abroad, will exhibit limited edition digital NFT works in the exhibition.

“Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022” will present in the exhibition the cycle “Painting in a Different Way: Lagoon and Neighborhood” created during the workshops this summer held at the initiative of Petrašiūnai community and the community program “Fluxus Labas!”

The I. Kanto Library of Klaipėda City Municipality also joined the KCCC project “Modern Graphics Spaces”, providing visitors with a collection of books on modern graphics.

The boundaries are being destroyed between the creator and the viewer

The project organizers invite young people to the cycle of events, which will take place throughout the month, in order to involve the youth of the port city in the activities of KCCC, to encourage the creation of social connections and to destroy the boundaries between content creators and its users. The program prepared for the participants includes performances, seminars, meetings with creators,  discussions and creative workshops. Here, together with artists, illustrators and representatives of the Lithuanian Skateboard Federation, visitors will be able to join various creative activities: textile printing, drawing with felt-tip pens or threads or skateboard restoration, decoration processes.

The tattoo culture is also inseparable from the street art, so everyone who likes this art style will be welcome. The masters of the tattoo studio „Tattoo Virus“ will make small tattoos for registered visitors, and Danielius Djačkovas, the founder of the tattoo studio „Danis Tattoo“, will share his experience and invite you to a discussion about art. Indubitable rap artists will be invited to the afternoon, where rappers FunkTM, Domas and THC will perform their works. During the concert, artist Pijus and his friends will turn the bleak fence of the old town into an object that will adorn the city.
