KLAIPEDA. DRAWINGS
Sand and time over cones and crosses
2014 10 24–11 23
The Klaipedaregion is shaped by the change and overlaying of culture and landscape. Huge amounts of sand and the sea are constantly moving onward. Drawings on paper, based on impressions during artist’ stay at Klaipeda: variations in space, structure, and compositions. Christin’s point of departure is aesthetic. She explores space, structure, lines, light and dark, shades, and the constitution of paper and graphite. They become expressions of abstract ideas. Her drawings always have a three-dimensional depth. Inside the drawings one can always find a top, bottom, for- and background. This depth evolves from the constant rearrangement, the process of drawing, various layers of graphite and the reflections in light and color of the surroundings by the graphite surface.
Project ″Travel Agency″ . The residents involved in ″Travel Agency″ are suggested to reflect on the Klaipeda region and the city, to write diaries and keep their ″route accounting″, which equates the residency to travel agency engaging in cultural journeys.
The topics of the artworks are going to explore two issues: the first relates to the cultural identity that we derive from the personal and collective experience; the second deals with representations of personal experience stories and the construction of conceptual “message” by means of not formal documentation, but a cultural event that causes the reaction of the local community and incorporates it into the process. The project highlights the quest for Utopia in architecture, the time slip, gender and national identity.
