The aim of the exhibition – to get to know the opinion of the city‘s community and to encourage to review the priorities of the city‘s image. The exhibition is set up in a way, that the people of Klaipėda could critically review and analyse if the static image of the port city needs to be changed and what symbols, in their opinion, should represent Klaipėda.

Virginijus Bakas, a lecturer at VAA, working in a graphical design area and a lecturer designer Lina Jaruševičiūė of KCCC Art yard workshop draw the attention, that the city‘s representation image has no coherence with historical identity and has not changed for many years. The initiators of the project collected lots of material that is meant for the tourists – postcards, tourist maps, children books, all with objects that have represented the port city for many years, so that the visitors of the exhibition could see the modern-day city image in one place.

While analysing the situation, a survey of various city communities was arranged. In public places of Klaipėda, in spoken and in written, there were 1300 people surveyed and what was their opinion about the exploited city image symbols. The results of the survey are presented at the exhibition.

Every resident sees the city differently. At the KCCC Art yard photograph workshop “Klaipėdos atvirlaiškis” the community already stated its position on how they personally represent their city. Every participant of the workshop created a cycle of ten postcards and a walking route, meant for Klaipėda city representation. The created maps with photographs of the participants will be represented at the exhibition.
