Gytis Skudžinskas
Klaipeda Culture Communication Centre is collaborating with Künstlerhaus Lukas (Ahrenshoop, Germany) in exchanging artist programme since 2007.
Gytis Skudžinskas is taking part in anniversary festival REFUGE – OF THE LONGING FOR PARADISE, organized of Künstlerhaus Lukas. G. Skudzinskas will spend one month (7th January – 10th February) in Künstlerhaus Lukas and present his new works in the festival.
Gytis Skudžinskas has been displaying his “Black Sky” – creative work composed of a photo sequence – at “Neues Kunsthaus” gallery in Ahrenshop to emphasize photographic momentariness and obvious environment agenda. The exhibition that opened on February 7 and will be there until April 21 is a starting platform for the festival that will be held all year long.
At “Lukas” arthouse, Gytis Skudžinskas has been presenting his latest works analyzing the limits of the message in photographic media. The artist rejects a particular image in his work, pointing out the idea that the aesthetics, the problem and the means of solving it are concealed in the technical characteristics of the selected material.
In his “Retouching”, the author emphasizes the tensions that arise between digital and analog photography and the processes that unite different kinds of technological creative work. The psychological aspects of image perception are revealed in his work “Grand Theory of Truth”. “The Perfect Shot” is electro-acoustic sound art composition, considering photography from the perspective of hearing rather than looking. At a special request by the heads of “Lukas” arthouse, Gytis Skudžinskas has also composed a new version of his “Traces” installation that he had not been developing before.
This year, 2014, Künstlerhaus Lukas as an international Artist Resi-dency celebrate the 20th year of existence and 120 years of Künstlerhaus Lukas in general and also of exhibition house Neues Kunsthaus. Therefore it is arranged a first nationwide general art genre-transcending festival with the scholarship holders from the last years and new invitations.
Künstlerhaus Lukas is an international scholarship holder house. Since 1994 normally every month we welcome artists from states all around the Baltic Sea to work and present their work in our house and in special projects. In 2014 they invite artists only for special works to participate in the projects of the festival, also artists from Island and new once.
Gytis Skudžinskas (b. 1975) is a universal artist. His creative scope ranges from visuals arts (photography, installations, graphic design) to innovative sound practices (musique concrete, electro-acoustic and post-industrial music). For almost a decade Gytis Skudžinskas is a participant in a number of exhibitions inLithuania and abroad, he is the initiator and the curator of art projects, a published author of feature and critical articles. G. Skudžinskas defines the creative process as a work of research allowing the artist who is the mediator to reveal different aspects of the surrounding world. In other words, the author is striving to analyse and debate the realities of today’s world rather than be a mere spectator.
