Opening of the exhibition: 8 July, Friday at 6:00 PM at the Contemporary Art Centre (Vokiečių street 2, Vilnius)

The project “Graphic Contexts. Declaration” dedicated to the Lithuanian graphic art aims at „declaring“ the contemporary situation of the Lithuanian graphic art, which is represented by artists‘ artworks and declarations – texts where the artists stress the objectives (former, present or only being designed) of  their creative work and creative strategies. “Declaration” is a “statement” of 28 project participants-artists and 5 project curators, where the main directions, strategies and tactics of the Lithuanian graphic art “have been written” and the contemporary picture of graphic art is analysed and described.

Curators: Ignas Kazakevičius, Jurga Minčinauskienė, Vidas Poškus, Kristina Stančienė, Arvydas Žalpys

ARTVILNIUS’11

On  13 – 17 July at the 2nd international contemporary art fair ARTVILNIUS’11 (LITEXPO, Lithuanian Exhibition and Convention Centre, Laisvės ave. 5, Vilnius) KCCC presents Gytis Skudžinskas and his  installation „Traces“ and the catalogue of this long-year project. Philosopher Gintautas Mažeikis introducing the artist’s concept says: “It appears to me that Gytis Skudžinskas’s series of visual works titled „Traces“ continues the tradition of legitimising new directions, spaces, events and words – doing it in a controversial manner, again and again, – started by the Situationist International, psycho-geography, ant critique of everyday life. The trails he depicts blend the road, the Dynamics, and the image-event. The mediated perception of the trail must tear the personal, spontaneous, or power- and authority-legitimised routes, constrained by steel and concrete, out of the daily routine, turning them into a vivid abstraction, a psychological model, an urban dream.”
On 16 July, Saturday, at 3:00 PM (Conference hall 5.3) art critics Aistė Paulina Virbickaitė and Ignas Kazakevičius will take part in the podium discussion „Art in regions. To be or not to be?“ and will present a catalogue of the art critique project „Routes of critique“ implemented in 2009–2010 – insights of 16 art critics – participants of the project – generated during their travelling around Lithuanian cities and towns.

THREE WORLDS IN ONE

Klaipėda Culture Communication Centre (KCCC) presents the project of the world-famous British art critic Edward Lucie-Smith „3 worlds in 1“. The exhibition runs until 31 July at the Exhibition Hall (Didžioji Vandens street 2).

The essence of the phenomena focused on and introduced by E. Lucie-Smith at KCCC can be described as several key fragments of diverse and eclectic London contemporary art world. “3 worlds in 1” – comprises of three exhibitions: „ London International“, „ Polemically small“and „ New Iranian art“.

In the Lithuanian part of the exhibition „Polemically small“ the concept of miniature is questioned by Gytis Skudžinskas, Juozas Laivys, Laisvydė Šalčiūtė, Mindaugas Bumblys, Arturas Bumšteinas, Andrius Zakarauskas, Žygimantas Augustinas.
LULEÅ  ART BIENNALE  (LAB11)
The programme of Luleå  Art Biennale (Sweden) LAB11 includes 25 art projects and wide geography of participating authors  – artists from Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Ireland, Greece, Lebanon, Egypt, Cameroon, the United States, Singapore and Thailand. Klaipėda Culture Communication Centre is represented by Bronė Neverdauskienė and Monika Žaltauskaitė-Grašienė. Their installation “Total Equality” focuses on our way of socially “dressing up” in predestined uniforms of social habits, behaviour and ethical dogmas. Colourful, poster-like and naive propaganda on the equality of gender, race, age, religion, sexual orientation or social status presented in the mass media looks ironic, because it does not fit reality. People driven by human nature – to be, to survive, to dominate – try to avoid the equality at any price, to show up by works, creativeness, demonstration of social status, fashion, art or just simply weaving a plot. The project declares that despite our race or national differences, we are marked by destiny’s “label” to become a pervert, criminal, looser or yuppie…
