KKKC EXHIBITION HALL PRESENTS: “FACTURE. SEA. SHORE. FOREST” BY SONATA ŽIŽI

Sonata‘s Žiži artistic exhibition “Facture. Sea. Shore. Forest” is opening at KKKC Exhibition Hall (Didžioji Vandens str. 2, Klaipėda) on Friday, 15th December 2017, at 18:00.

The exhibition of the textile artist Sonata Žiži consists of a number of segments: items of textile, costumes, pictures, video and audio projections. The theme of nature and the sea first manifested itself in the artist’s creative work in 1997. The costume collections “Creature of Depth” (1997) and “Under Water” (1998) belong to that period of work. The theme kept expanding. When working on the project “Sea. The Balts”, Sonata presented herself as a photographer for the first time. It is an interesting fact that photography has endowed her with a new look at textiles, enabled her to go beyond the costumes and start working with layers. “Textile layers are like time waves,” says the artist, who creates items of raw materials such as jute, linen, cotton, wool.

Sonata Žiži in this exhibition goes beyond the limits of exhibiting a costume as an object of applied arts and invites the visitor to take an experiential walk on the surface of the sea, sand and wood. The artist highly values insights such as wave lines, wood bark or moving coastal graphics transforming into silhouettes of objects and clothing. The unexpected merges of various forms create the experience of integrity and unity, interwoven with the power of impression. “Let’s play an imagination game,” says the author. Phantasmagorically fragmented factures are all around: photographs, pulsating images, objects of textile and costume, a shadow of a spectator are just another moving line in the facture of the exhibition. The combination of the above sensations into the aesthetic segments reveals an artistic reality to us.
