„KLAIPEDA ARCHITECTURE” IS PRESENTED AT KCCC EXHIBITION HALL
On the 10th of June, Friday, at 5 p.m. an exhibition and a cycle of events „Klaipėda architecture“ organized by Lithuanian Union of Architects Klaipeda District Organization (LUA KDO) will be presented at the Exhibition Hall of Klaipėda Culture Communication Center (KCCC) (Didžioji Vandens st. 2, Klaipėda).
At previous exhibitions Klaipėda architects communicated with the viewers in the language of installations and modern technologies. Origins of architecture, process of architectural apprenticeship were also discussed. This, already the fourth, architecture exhibition at KCCC Exhibition Hall is dedicated to recently more and more relevant topic of Soviet period‘s architecture and urban design.
Timer of Klaipeda architecture
A special exposition dedicated to 1945–1990 urban development of Klaipeda city will complement the annual exhibition that covers last year‘s architects works. This exposition, prepared by Institute of Urban Design, Architecture and Design (IUDAD) of Vilnius Academy of Arts, was constructed as a sequel of Tomas S. Butkus, Vasilijus Safronovas and Vaidas Petrulis‘s monograph „1945–1990 urban development of Klaipeda“. A complex urban development‘s topic is evolved at the exhibition by emphasizing the main factors that had an impact on it – war, fishing industry and new inhabitants of the city. At the exposition the attention is paid to those urban development decisions implemented during Soviet period, that are even visible in today‘s urban structure of Klaipeda city – linear plan, architectural style of Klaipėda, Smiltynė recreational zone, old town.
A cycle of events, dedicated to architecture, that has already became usual will go along with the main exhibition. Events that were designed for this cycle will be held in various locations around the city during the exhibition – excursions „Architecture and Technology“ and „Interwar modernism quarters in Klaipeda“, discussion „Architecture between politics and profession“, introduction of architectural culture and criticism platform „Zero degree (_0*)“ supervised by architects of Vilnius city, an exhibition-contest of Lithuanian architecture students‘ works that analyse Klaipėda city so as events of traditional architects‘ professional festival of the 1st of July.
These events that are dedicated to Klaipėda society will be more announced on LUA KDO website www.architektams.lt.
