SLOW SPEED: EXHIBITION OF AURIMAS ANUSAS “MEMEL-KLAIPĖDA”
An exhibition of Aurimas Anusas “Memel-Klaipėda. Lėta eiga. Slow Speed” will be opened at the KCCC Exhibition Hall (Didžioji Vandens str. 2, Klaipėda) on Thursday, 23rd of March 2017, at 6 PM.
Recently having celebrated his 50th birthday, painter, jeweller and sculptor fromKlaipėda, Aurimas Anusas on the occasion of this anniversary is presenting an exhibition-report of his latest works including all the possible areas of his versatile talent and creativity to the fans of his talent.
The major part of works of Aurimas Anusas is thematically as well as conceptually related with Klaipėda city, Klaipėda Region and Lithuania Minor. People who know the artist can certainly testify that his inclination towards his region can no longer be called amateur: he has zealously travelled the length and breadth of the region, has read all the existing books and discussed every possible problem and historical peripeteia of this region. Aurimas Anusas distinguishes himself by his unique ability to see and interpret the fate of the city, its history and the people remaining in that history. Because of the author’s contemplative and thorough approach towards the reality, the narrative of Klaipėda city and the whole region opens up in his works in unprecedented and original forms.
A definition “magical realism” probably would be the most accurate when trying to define the method of artistic creation of the painter Aurimas Anusas. By altering usual perspectives and distorting spatial similarity to the reality, the author enables the reality of his paintings to fill with magical content. A secondary, mysterious and enigmatic side, hidden from the reality of naive glance, which is available only for metaphorical thinking and which Aurimas Anusas is able to detect and realistically depict in his paintings, opens up alongside the primary and visible reality. He is able to combine the parts of the world and human, which are scattering in different directions, into a single artistic whole, to inspire a new meaning and to create a new model of relationship between a human being and his historic and natural environment. The metaphor of the sunken city, which is regularly repeated in the paintings, is the instrument used by the author to slit the stiff layers of our cultural memory in order to open up a living nerve of the history.
