“The Line is Endless” of Anda Lāce – at KCCC Exhibition Hall

A personal exhibition “The Line is Endless” of Anda Lāce will be opened at the KCCC Exhibition Hall (Didžioji Vandens str. 2, Klaipėda) on Friday, 21st of April 2017, at 5 PM.

Painting, sculpture, scenography, installations and performances – the field of creative activity of Latvian artist Anda Lāce is truly wide. The artist’s paintings and performances, which she arranges since 2010 together with contemporary classical music composers, harmoniously evolve into spatial installations and sculptural compositions, and are extended by music and video art works.

Verbal language is extremely important for the works of Anda Lāce; however, according to the artist, she is mostly influenced by the limit states which are “indescribable in words”. “Liminality, accident, stepping into new uncharted territories, contrasts, transformations, various experiments, creative and technical collaborations with other artists; motion in life, in painting, in installations, in sculpture and performance; the endless line and action in all possible directions. To me such motion means life” – thus Anda Lāce names her creative inspirations.

The artist lets her nature to take over while working – the main role is given to her “inner self”: “Distancing myself from the surroundings and prejudices, I simply absorb and reflect diverse internal and external impulses.”

When presenting the exhibition “The Line is Endless”, Anda Lāce draws parallel between a line and life: “It is possible to see life as a segment holding onto the infinite line, and this seemingly safe infinity brings calmness. Even if this line is a barely perceptible thread. The tiny segment may accidentally split apart, spread out indecently and become entangled; and yet it has existed and will continue to exist, safely cradled by the line which points like rays in both directions. I draw the line again and again; I search, merge with it, and lie down confidently in the infinity as in a hammock. Only after a while a quiet voice keeps ringing in my ear that, no, this thought is false: it is so sweet to hold on to it, yet it sucks out all vitality as an unimaginably long worm. Not a thing is safe and nothing is promised.”
