„WE CAN BE HEROES“

On the 4th of September, 2020, on friday, at Klaipeda Culture Communication Center‘s (KCCC) Exhibition Hall (Didžioji Vandens st. 2, Klaipėda), the international art project „We can be heroes“ is being presented at 6 p.m.; at 6:45 p.m. there will be a performance “Fluqus Marriage. The Birth of a Centaur ” and at 7:30 p.m., in the Art Yard – a painting special offer-happening “Freedom”.

The project “We can be heroes”, dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the Klaipeda Culture Communication Center, is a today‘s conversation between the participants of art field from all these years of KCCC activity: foreign and Lithuanian artists, curators, organizers, designers, journalists, critics, art fans, observers and evaluators who have contributed to the establishment of the Klaipeda Culture Communication Center and continue the evolution of the KCCC.

Through the exhibited works of art, “We can be heroes” symbolically names the KCCC projects that have ever been implemented, which have influenced not only the ideas or visions for the future developed by the center itself, but also the urban community. The motto of the project expresses the person and society, culture and nature, objectivity and tolerance, art and politics and many other binary oppositions that any of us can name. Each participant – both the artist and the viewer – is entrusted to develop the story in the project… Each of them is a reference point; the work of any artist can become the beginning of this ritual journey in time.

“Once upon a time, space was timeless, when only Gods and Heroes lived. Later, the Planck wall appeared, which we fail to break through with our heads, so we still believe in rituals that can destroy the past and return the innocence of action to us. Between the birth of the universe and the apocalypse, in the illusory time based on facts, there remains no positive and negative. Physics and metaphysics, natural and social phenomena: gender equality or the second‘s standard, craniometry or quantum mechanics, reincarnation or genocide can gain equal value in the plankton of beyond its self-control space-time… The idea to mummify the present time was born during a conversation with potential participants of it. It is a phantasmagoric vision of a ritual which is continuous and takes place simultaneously in the past – in our memory, in the present – through the repeated learned actions, and in the future – because it is formed by our fantasies, hopes and illusions. We believe that by active functioning of each art field participant, listening attentively to the quotes and observing the emerging interpretations, in the context of the project we can discover time and space dedicated only to us – for at least fifteen minutes,“ says KCCC Director Ignas Kazakevičius, the initiator of the project.
