VITA OPOLSKYTĖ AND KAZIMIERAS BRAZDŽIŪNAS‘ EXHIBITION „X / Y“
Vita Opolskytė and Kazimieras Brazdžiūnas‘ exhibition „X / Y“ will be opened at the Exhibition Hall of Klaipeda Culture Communication Centre (KCCC) (Didžioji Vandens st. 2, Klaipėda) from the 9th of April, 2021, Friday, 4 pm.
This exhibition presents two artists speaking different artistic languages, sometimes very far apart from each other and sometimes intersecting at certain points. Vita‘s portrayed intimate and personal domestic motifs, playful coloured relationships, smooth stroke, almost childish drawings here are mixed with Kazimieras‘ callous, impersonal stroke, motifs of the nihilistic and alienated world that declare emptiness. At the same time, both authors‘ works could be interpreted as a reflection of the visuality of modern culture, reflecting the dispersed, heterogeneous flow of images and commenting on the urgent problems of the modern world, its pictures and images. The unfolding story of both creators analyzes topics of faith / disbelief, sexuality / unpleasantness, love / hate, certainty / emptiness, commonality / alienation, and more. The created interior model of the exhibition raises the question of the coexistence of visible and invisible reality and becomes a research of the relationship between the work of art, artist and the viewer as well as the epiphany of the turning world.
‘What I portray is like a wish to show that a daily routine is not simple, and even the greatest inner drama can be hidden in everyday life,‘ says Vita Opolskytė. Extremely intimate and personal fragments of life, as if they were snatched out of everyday life, shown in her paintings, in the general exposition become references or prompts to a possibly happening story. Paintings, created on a collage basis, duplicated through personal experience with other stories, cultural signs or myths, evoke universal experiences for the viewer. In the author’s works, the exploration of the environment on the content plane also moves into form – the works are created not only using oil paints, but also with the means used in her household, thus bringing everyday life and routine also into the intimate visual sphere.

Widely used motifs of icons of culture, religion or the modern world, which the author recreates to another, new life by resuscitating them on the canvas, dominate in the depersonalized works of Kazimieras Brazdžiūnas. He paints the paintings with a depersonalized touch of spray paint, creating an aerosol sfumato that is closer to nowaday life. ‘It is no coincidence that I choose aerosol paints. I construct the show as if through a fog by spraying a paint mist with aerosol paints. I decided to paint what is invisible, what no longer exists behind the representative image, the fading historiographical fog,’ says the artist. In this way, a mirage of the cultural world, a hallucination created only by sprayed coloured dust and limited by an invisible, only imaginary silhouette, is found in Kazimieras’ canvases.
