M-12 Swing Bridge, Žvejų g. 22
The historic swing bridge in the Castle Harbour spans the channel connecting the Danė River with the defence moat of Klaipėda Castle. It is the only bridge in Lithuania that is opened by human power. When it is closed, that is, when the bridge can be crossed, Konstantinas Bogdanas’s conceptual textual work is invisible – both literally and figuratively. However, in its full form, this work exists only when it is invisible. When the bridge is opened to let boats in and out of the marina, one part of the work can be seen from one side of the canal and the other from the other, but the two parts cannot be seen at the same time, because there is no bridge then. The bridge opens every hour in the summer and less and less in the autumn as the weather gets worse, so the opportunity to see the work is slowly disappearing, even though it is impossible to see it anyway because it is invisible.

Konstantinas Bogdanas creates artistic projects – objects, installations, performances, photographs, etc. – which are linked by strategies typical of conceptual art. A particularly important medium for him is language – text and context. Using the contrast between minimalist expression and depth of content, often acting through denial, capturing the absurd situation, paradox, and demanding an inner decision from the viewer, Bogdanas questions abstract concepts such as art, identity, perception, and self-consciousness.
