“I AM”: AN EXHIBITION OF CREATION OF JŪRATĖ STAUSKAITĖ IN KLAIPĖDA

An exhibition of Jūratė Stauskaitė’s art will be opened at the KCCC Exhibition Hall (Didžioji Vandens str. 2, Klaipėda) on Friday, 24th of February 2017, at 5 PM. During presentation, the artist will arrange a drawing performance, with assisting dancers of modern dance theatre “Padi Dapi Fish” as well as pupils of Klaipėda Eduardas Balsys Gymnasium of Arts. The book “Jūratė Stauskaitė “I AM”, published by the Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences in 2017, will also be presented in this event.

Exhibition of Jūratė Stauskaitė „I am“ is an adventure not only for a spectator but for artist herself as well, who presents detailed cardiogram of her art for the first time. By stopping by in the most highlighted episodes of her creation, she invokes conceptual model of exposition, by thinking about complicated and controversial human’s – woman’s way of life, from trusting innocence of the youth through silence of meditations and fly nostalgia to rebellious reality and maturity.

Together with recognisable touch of graphic cycles “Dance”, “White bird throws his feather”, “Voyage”, “Harlequin” etc., she also resurrects one of the first witnesses of independent works – from sensitive etching world of H. K. Andersen “Mermaid” up to dramatic wide format drawings of recent years.

By choosing Klaipėda for this exhibition, Jūratė Stauskaitė said, she figuratively came near the sea – a source of her deepest inspirations. Influenced by nearness of the sea, the artist created her most memorable works at the House of Artists in Palanga, owned by Lithuanian Artists’ Association.

Jūratė Stauskaitė is a painter, pedagogue, publicist, one of the most famous artists of our country and active member of cultural field, representing generation of artists, she matured her world of creation during the period of spreading state independence ideas and becoming of independent.

This artist established first private school of Arts, currently named Vilnius Art School for Children and Youth, she manages for Vilnius Children and Youth Arts Gallery, writes articles in press, and speaks in radio and TV broadcastings. Jūratė Stauskaitė prepared textbooks of arts pedagogy, published book of conversations “13×13: thirteen questions for thirteen men“.

Contribution of Jūratė Stauskaitė to the country’s culture and education was awarded with St. Christopher’s statue (in 2001); in 2008 was awarded premium of the Ministry of Culture for The Best City Projects, prepared for Children and Youth; in 2011 she was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas and the Government Award for merits to Lithuanian culture and art; in 2016 Stauskaitė was granted the highest premium of the Ministry of Culture – the sign of honour “Carry Your Light and Believe” for merits to Lithuanian culture and arts, consolidation of sociality, personal responsibility when creating cultural and spiritual environment.

The artist arranged many personal exhibitions in Lithuania and in foreign countries. This exhibition is the 70th. Her works were acquired by Lithuanian Art Museum (Vilnius), M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art (Kaunas), Ludwigs Museum of Contemporary Arts (Cologne, Germany), Czech National Gallery (Prague, Czech Republic), New Orleans Museum of Contemporary Arts (USA), The New York Public Library (USA), MMC (Lithuania), private collectors.

The exhibition will run until the 19th of March 2017.
