SIDSEL LADEGAARD: EXHIBITION OF SCULPTURAL INSTALLATIONS

„ FINE SHELF“

On Friday, December 15, 2023, at 5.30 pm, the sculptural installation exhibition “Plati lentyna / Fine Shelf” by Sidsel Ladegaard will open at the Exhibition Hall of the Klaipėda Culture Communication Center (KCCC) located at Didžioji Vandens str. 2. The German artist’s site-specific installations and sculptures create a dialogue between the viewer and the space, transcending conventional boundaries. Sidsel Ladegaard transforms commonplace objects into poetic expressions, inviting the audience to rethink their relationship with the everyday. The exhibition will run until January 14, 2024.

ARTWORKS THAT ENVELOP THE SPACE

Sidsel Ladegaard creates sculptural installations that occupy and shape spaces while indicating social interaction. She achieves this by working with familiar objects like tables, carpets, and ceramic objects, arranging them in such a manner that they appear both familiar and foreign. For example, metal objects that are supposed to be functional, take on an indeterminate quality. The arrangement of these objects is somewhat peculiar, as is the combination of materials used.

The exhibition is definitely testing the boundaries between intention and the obvious. Although at first glance it may seem arbitrary, it becomes clear that the positioning of the items has been meticulously thought out. The objects interact with one another, establishing connections or eliciting a sense of distance while sharing the same space. Moreover, they seem to have a purpose—to weigh, to separate, to accommodate something. Ladegaard’s work is known for its exploration of spatial expansion, materiality, and conceptual depth.
